Construction of 3 new classrooms – St Thérèse of the Child Jesus

Cameroon
|
Ngambé-Tikar

Problem/ Context

Our pupil numbers have increased, and we have been forced to triple the size of the SIL and CP classes, double the size of the CM1 class, and use the parish hall – which is outside the school grounds – for the CM2 class. We therefore wish to plan ahead for the start of the next school year.

Detailed project description

The aim here is to provide our primary school with three new classrooms, so that next year we will have three CE1 classes to accommodate the growing number of pupils from the three CP classes, have a classroom for the CM2 class within the school grounds, and triple the size of the CE2 class to prepare for the following year.

This will help to promote good working conditions for our staff, who will not be overwhelmed by the number of pupils per class, and will enable us to ensure a smooth learning experience for the children whose parents place their trust in us.

Furthermore, all our classrooms will be located within the same compound. According to the available quotes, the construction of a single classroom costs 7,500,000 FCFA, as we are situated some distance from the urban areas where materials are sourced. We would be most grateful if you could fund the construction of these three classrooms.

For the past three years, we have been renting a room and space to house our preschool.
We started with 40 students and now have 80. We serve students in the younger, middle, and older preschool classes, as well as a special education class designed to support children who left public school at a very young age, as well as those facing learning challenges, to help them overcome them.
With our limited resources, we are struggling not only to build our own school but also to accommodate more students.

The school’s two buildings are unfinished and dilapidated; they have 4 and 2 classrooms, respectively, for a total enrollment of 357 students. There are more than 65 students per class. The desks and benches are broken and insufficient. Three or more students sit on each bench instead of two.

ESTABLISHED in 2000. I have been running this school for three years now. But there are no amenities for these students. Under the previous principal, enrollment was at a maximum of 90 students. When I arrived, after giving the school a few coats of paint, I had 120 students in the first year, then 180, and 187 this year.
