Construction of 3 classrooms and 2 staff accommodation units – EPP Konankro

Problem/ Context

The Konankro State Primary School (EPP), situated in the Bodokro sub-prefecture in the Gbêkê region of Côte d’Ivoire, has around 120 pupils. Despite its vital role in the education of local children, the school requires additional facilities to improve learning conditions and meet the needs of its pupil population. The lack of sufficient classrooms limits the school’s ability to accommodate pupils in suitable conditions.

Furthermore, the shortage of suitable accommodation for teachers makes it more difficult for them to settle in the area and may jeopardise their long-term commitment to the school. In light of this situation, the construction of three additional classrooms and two staff flats is a pressing priority. The completion of these facilities would help to improve the school environment, facilitate the work of teachers and provide pupils with better conditions in which to learn and succeed.

Detailed project description

The project involves strengthening the infrastructure of the Konankro Primary School through the construction of three additional classrooms and two staff accommodation units for teachers.

The main objective is to

  • improve teaching and learning conditions,
  • increase the school’s capacity and
  • encourage teachers to remain in the locality in the long term.

The planned works include the construction and fitting out of three classrooms, as well as the provision of two functional staff accommodation units for teachers. This infrastructure will provide a school environment better suited to the needs of pupils and teaching staff.

The direct beneficiaries will be the school’s approximately 120 pupils and its teaching staff. Pupils’ parents and the wider Konankro community will also benefit from the positive impact of the project. Through this initiative, we are seeking Action For Africa’s support to contribute to the development of education in rural areas and to ensure that the children of Konankro have a school environment more conducive to their success.

Manatido Nations Chapel Mission School was established in 2020 in Manatido, Tatale-Sanguli District, Northern Region, Ghana. The school currently serves 207 children but faces challenges with classroom space, desks and chairs, textbooks, and teaching materials. These challenges affect the learning environment and the quality of education available to the children. We are seeking support to construct additional classrooms, improve existing facilities where necessary, and provide essential educational resources to create a better learning environment for all 207 students.

The needs are much greater than what I can continue to carry alone. Our current needs include additional classrooms, desks and chairs, textbooks and school supplies, support for children's meals, toilets and sanitation facilities, playground equipment, and transportation for children who live far from the school.

TESTIMONI SPECIAL SCHOOLS NGBO LTD is experiencing increasing pressure on its existing classroom facilities as the number of students continues to grow. The school currently serves more than 600 students from JSS1 to SS3, with further admissions expected during the current term.
‍
The existing classroom facilities are not sufficient for the growing student population. Some of the available learning spaces are also below the standard learning environment the school seeks to provide, including classrooms with bare or sandy floors and open-sided conditions.

This shortage of suitable classroom space is becoming an important challenge to the school's ability to provide an adequate and comfortable learning environment for all its students. Without additional classrooms, continued growth in enrollment will place further pressure on the existing facilities.

The school therefore seeks support for the construction of additional permanent classrooms to increase capacity and provide students with a more suitable environment for teaching and learning.
